Admission for Veterans and Dependents
Ðǿմ«Ã½ÊÓÆµ administration, faculty, and staff thank you for your service to our country. We welcome veteran students and dependents of veterans and offer VA educational assistance with the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch33), Montgomery GI Bill® (Ch30), Selected Reserve Chapter 1606, Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), Dependents Education Assistance (Ch35), Veteran’s Education Assistance Program (VEAP, Ch 32) and VA Veteran Rediness and Employment (Ch31).

If you or dependent family member(s) are eligible for VA benefits, please complete the Veterans Information Form. Upon submission of the form, the School Certification Official (SCO) will contact you.
A minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA is typically required to continue receiving benefits. If a student falls below this GPA, they may be placed on academic probation, which could lead to a suspension of benefits if the GPA isn't raised by the following term. If a student's GPA falls below 2.0, they will be placed on academic probation, which is a warning that they need to improve their GPA.
In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679 subsection (e}, this school adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs {VA} Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® (Ch. 33} or Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from the VA. This school will not:
- Prevent the student’s enrollment;
- Assess a late penalty fee to;
- Require student secure alternative or additional funding;
- Deny their access to any resources (access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities} available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.
However, to qualify for this provision, such students may be required to:
- Provide Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility (or its equivalent} or for Chapter 31, VA VR&E’s contract with the school on VA Form 28-1905 by the first day of class.
Chapter 33 students can register at the VA Regional Office to use E-Benefits to get the equivalent of a Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility. Chapter 31 student cannot get a completed VA Form 28-1905 (or any equivalent} before the VA VR&E case-manager issues it to the school.

- Provide additional information needed to properly certify the enrollment as described in other institutional policies
How Veterans and Dependants Get Started at CCC
- To apply for VA Educational Benefits complete the online application. Follow the step by step instructions to submit the application. Once the application has been approved by the VA, the
service beneficiary will receive the Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Submit the
COE and a copy of the DD214 to the SCO in the Financial Aid Office. Scan the DD214,
attach to an email and send to the school certifying official (SCO). All documentation
must be submitted before certification for courses can occur. No exceptions are allowed. This is done to ensure that your benefits are covering the education that you deserve.
Enrollment is a two part process. The first portion will be facilitated viaVeterans Affairs. The second portion will be facilitated via the CCC resources. Below are ways to utilize your VA Educational Benefits with Ðǿմ«Ã½ÊÓÆµ. Follow the steps for the chapter that applies to you.

Returning Students
If you were using the benefits last semester, there is no requirement for you to re-apply to the VA for benefits or complete any additional paperwork. You simply need to notify the Veterans Services Office when you have registered for classes.
Transfering Students
If you have used VA Benefits at a different school and are now coming to CCC, the VA requires you to complete a Make sure you are using the 22-1995 form.

First Time chapter 1606/1607 - Selected Reserve Chapter 1606 / Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

Second Step: Submit a copy of your DD214 and Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Veterans’ Benefit Coordinator at Colby Community College.
First Time Chapter 33-Post 9/11 GI Bill® Dependent TOE (Transfer of Entitlement)
First Step: Your sponsor will need to apply to the Department of Defense to transfer their GI Bill® l to you. They can do this on the .
Second Step: Once the transfer has been approved, you will need to apply for the GI Bill® benefits on Make sure you are using the 22-1990E form
Third Step: Submit a copy of your DoD Transfer Approval letter and Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Veterans’ Benefit Coordinator at Ðǿմ«Ã½ÊÓÆµ.
First Time Chapter 30-Montgomery GI Bill® DEA

Second Step: Submit your Certificate of Eligibility.
First Time Chapter 31- Veteran Rediness and Employment
First Step: Meet with your for approval of VA benefits and they will send CCC your VA contract. Make sure you are using the 28-1900 form.

Changing your place of Training to CCC
If you have used VA Benefits at a different school and are now coming to CCC, the VA requires you to complete a Make sure you are using the 22-1995 form.
Ðǿմ«Ã½ÊÓÆµ Required Steps
- Student must be degree seeking with a declared major. To declare a major the student
should complete the Declaration of Major form and complete the application for admission to CCC.
- Only VA approved courses required for certificate or degree programs will qualify
for payment with VA Educational Benefits. Advisors must sign off on the degree plan
before each term. If you don’t know who your Advisor is contact the Registrar’s office
at 785-460-5509.
- Students must be pre-enrolled in courses and an academic plan must be submitted to the SCO before each term. Veterans are paid according to the
number of credits in which they are enrolled and the length of term and/or course.
The student must email the SCO immediately when a class is added or dropped. Failure
to notify the SCO could create an overpayment which the student would be responsible
for paying back.
- Veteran students are eligible to receive financial aid and VA benefits. To apply for
financial aid go to . Once you have submitted your application, wait one week and then contact the Financial
Aid office to verify receipt of the application.
- Veteran students who have been previously enrolled in college coursework and have not met satisfactory academic progress (SAP) may not qualify to receive veteran’s benefits until they return to good academic standing. Official transcripts must be received by the Registrar’s Office before course work can be certified for educational benefits. It is highly recommended that all students become familiar with the CCC SAP policy.
CCC cannot determine eligibility for VA benefits, cannot advise on VA benefits, nor
determine the amount of assistance. Please speak to your Education Service Officer
(ESO) or counselor within the Military Service prior to enrolling or for questions
regarding benefits.
Through the VA-Once system, CCC will verify the total credit hours enrolled and cost for tuition/fees.
